Summer Reading

Summer reading AR tests may be taken in the school office Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. beginning June 10 and ending August 2. (As a reminder, the school office will be closed July 4th and 5th.) Students will also have the first week of school to finish testing.

Summer reading counts toward word count for Millionaires’ Club.

Students may take extra AR tests if they wish, but not until all required summer reading is complete.

3rd Grade

Every student entering 3rd grade must  read at least one book. Students are not required to take an AR test, but still need to be active readers during their summer break. They are required, instead, to complete the graphic organizer about one book that they have read over the summer, turn it in at the beginning of the school, and tell the class about the book using the graphic organizer below.

The level of the book must be between 2.5-3.5  (exceptions can be made for lower readers or higher readers). You may use a book from home, the public library, or any place you prefer.

To check the level of a book (or to see if a book has an AR test) you can go to  www.arbookfind.com.

4TH Grade

Your child will need to take an AR quiz per book and pass with a 70 percent or higher for TWO  of these books on the list. This will be their first reading grade for 4th grade. Below is a list of books to choose from for your child. All of these books are more than 75 pages and are chapter books not picture books. IF your child does not complete their summer reading requirement then they will need to read and test on two of these books during 1 st Quarter in addition to their 1st Quarter reading assignment.
